چکیده
An analytical model is developed to study the ballistic behavior of multilayer composite armors subjected high-velocity impact projectiles with arbitrary angle incidence, shape, size, and frictional characteristics. The thickness compaction resulting from production process also accounted for, quantifying role curing pressure on enhancement toughness laminates. Finite element method simulations are used in a complementary manner damage failure mechanisms within targets. Both approaches validated by extensive experimental tests layer stacking sequence investigated. It emerges that graded configurations yield higher when projectile penetrates plies decreasing fracture strength. These results can explain common structural arrangements biological as well be exploited design optimization shielding structures against projectiles.

Simulation of Ballistic Impact on Composite Panels
Ballistic impact on composite panels is studied in this work both experimentally and computationally. The purpose was to develop computational methods to analyze a high speed jet engine fragment impacting on composite targets. 12 inch by 12 inch laminated panels with 8, 16, and 32 plies and the standard +-45, 0 /90 degree stacking sequences were considered. With the nominal ply thickness of 0.0...
متن کاملNumerical and Experimental Study of Ballistic Response of Kevlar Fabric and Kevlar/Epoxy Composite
Kevlar is a type of aramid fibers which is characterized by high strength to low weight ratio. This material is widely used in bulletproof vests and helmets, in which it creates a barrier to projectiles to protect specific objectives, laminated tubes and pressure vessels, etc. In this study the ballistic behavior of Kevlar /epoxy composite and Kevlar fabric is investigated. The results showed t...
متن کاملA comparison between numerical and analytical modeling of ECAP
Recent developments in nanostructured products draw considerable attention to ultrafine grained materials. These materials are normally manufactured by different severe plastic deformation (SPD) methods. In the present study, analytical models and finite element method (FEM) are used to calculate strain imposed to a specimen that was deformed by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP). In additio...

The objective of this research is to develop a system of software tools based on a new design methodology for the efficient composite armor structural design under ballistic impact loading conditions with a special focus on the joints design. An innovative design methodology, Function-Oriented Material Design (FOMD), is extended for the joint design problem of composite armor. The FOMD process ...
متن کاملGas Permeation Modeling through a Multilayer Hollow Fiber Composite Membrane
In this study, a time-dependent 2D axisymmetric model of a multilayer hollow fiber composite membrane for gas separation is proposed. In spite of the common multilayer membranes, which a dense layer coated on a porous support layer and subjected into the feed stream, here, the porous support is exposed to the feed gas. In this regard, the governing equations of species transport are developed f...
